Someone's golden years just got a lot more golden. In what the BBC calls an "astonishing hat-trick," Canada's Ping Kuen Shum decided to buy a lottery ticket on his birthday, which also happened to be his last day of work before retirement—and he hit it big. The numbers 09, 12, 13, 18, 21, and 29 came through on April 28 for the Vancouver man, who won $1.5 million, per the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. "It's unbelievable that all three events happened on the same day," marvels Ping.

Newsweek notes Ping, whose age hasn't been reported, bought his winning ticket at a convenience store in British Columbia. "I have worked hard for so many years and I'm looking forward to sharing this fortune with my family," Ping says, per the BBC. And how do you celebrate what some might call the best day ever? In Ping's case, by chowing down on dim sum with loved ones. He also plans on taking a trip to visit China with some of his newfound cash. (A Canadian teen also won the lotto on a remarkable day.)
