Sir Elton John brought a slice of Las Vegas glitz to Birmingham last night.

The city was chosen to host the first performance outside Vegas and London of The Red Piano, Elton's glittering and extravagant new show which will now tour Europe before returning to Brum on December 16.

Essentially a greatest hits package, the near two-hour event is packed with fan favourites, from opener Bennie and the Jets, to set closer Your Song.

Sandwiched in between are the likes of Philadelphia Freedom, Rocket Man, Candle in the Wind and Daniel.

(Newser) – Once known for its Rat Pack-style homophobia, Las Vegas has become a getaway hotspot for gays and lesbians—even more popular than San Francisco, one study says. Among its  gay attractions are a bar on the Strip, a mayor who marches on Gay Pride Day, and a slew of fabulous shows from Bette Midler to Elton John to Cirque du Soleil, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

"Vegas is big and glitzy and exciting," one expert said, "and gays and lesbians are drawn to that."
