EDF Energies Nouvelles Orders An Additional 75 MWp In Photovoltaic Panels From First Solar

EDF Group issued the following news release:

EDF Energies Nouvelles is continuing its strategy of purchasing photovoltaic panels by signing an order for a further 75 MWp in capacity from First Solar due for delivery in 2009 and 2010.

This deal between EDF Energies Nouvelles and US company First Solar, which manufactures thin-film technology photovoltaic modules, comes on top of the contracts already signed in July 2007 and early 2008 for 292 MWp in capacity due for delivery between year-end 2007 and December 2012. (Newser) – Some of the largest US retail chains have begun to embrace solar power as a way to reduce energy costs and to wrangle some cred among green-conscious shoppers, reports the New York Times. Kohl’s, Macy’s, Safeway, and Whole Foods are among chains rushing to install test panels on their vast roofs before a federal tax credit expires at the end of the year.

But experts are eagerly awaiting Wal-Mart's reaction to the small test it’s running, as success could mean roughly 23 acres of solar panels on stores nationwide. “It’s going to be the Wal-Marts of the world that will buy these things over acres and make a difference,” says one.
