Rowan-Cabarrus Community College issued the following news release:

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will offer a basic class in Microsoft Access 2007 and intermediate and advanced classes in Microsoft Excel 2007 before the end of the year.

These classes are designed for adults who need to learn the Microsoft Office 2007 version of these popular software packages. Many businesses and other organizations are moving to the 2007 versions for the newer features and ability to customize documents.

(Newser) – Sometimes high-stakes fraud doesn’t have to be high-tech. The former chief financial officer at a company now called Voyager Learning allegedly cooked the company's books by entering figures as white text on white background—the equivalent of invisible ink, Adam Jones notes in a Financial Times blog.

The Securities and Exchange Commission also says Scott Hirth used a "hide" function on a spreadsheet program that kept fictitious entries hidden when printed. The exec settled with the SEC by paying a fine, though he admitted no wrongdoing.

(Newser) - Prosecutors are fuming after Bernard Madoff mailed more than $1 million in jewelry to his sons on Christmas Eve, the New York Post reports. The Ponzi schemer was dragged into court today but left under house arrest pending written arguments. Madoff's bail agreement allows such a gift, but an SEC probe doesn't. (Newser) - As Bernard Madoff’s financial network comes under scrutiny, one investment fund is emerging as an especially close partner, the Wall Street Journal reports.
