What is the difference between cooking oil and petrol?

Until a couple of months ago our masters would rather we filled our cars with cooking oil (rendered into biofuel) than petrol.

Then they noticed what this was doing to the price of cooking oil and to the eco-critical rainforests that were being chopped down to make way for palm oil plantations. So now they are thinking again.
