(Newser) – A former bit-part child actor has been found guilty of murdering a couple by tying them to an anchor and throwing them overboard off the California coast in a plot to steal their yacht, the Orange County Register reports. The jury must now decide if Skylar Deleon, also found guilty of cutting a man's throat in an unrelated murder, should get the death penalty or a life sentence.
"My family has been waiting for 4 years to hear those words,” said the couple's son after the guilty verdict. “It’s done. Now let’s get on to the penalty phase. This was just a warm-up.” Deleon's lawyer did not contest the overwhelming evidence, but he plans to argue that his client should be spared execution because of his "horrific childhood.”

The lawyer for a former child actor admitted in court yesterday that his client was part of a gang that lashed a couple to an anchor and pushed them into the sea in order to steal their yacht, reports the Los Angeles Times . Skylar Deleon, who played bit parts as a kid, admitted his role in a defense bid to avoid the death penalty.

The killer who lashed a couple to an anchor and pushed them into the sea off the California coast so he could steal their yacht has been sentenced to death, reports the Los Angeles Times . Skylar Deleon was also convicted of killing a California man after stealing $50,000 from him. The son of the murdered couple hugged jurors after the decision. "It was difficult for the jury to make a decision on somebody's life, but I absolutely agreed," he said, smiling through tears.

A prosecution witness has given a California court chilling details of how he and two accomplices murdered an Arizona couple at sea, ABC News reports. Alonso Machain said he, accused ringleader and former child actor Skylar Deleon, and another man forced the retired couple to sign their yacht over to them, then blindfolded them with duct tape, tied them to the yacht's anchor and pushed it overboard.
