Kansas State University issued the following news release:

Kansas State University's K-State Alerts and reverse 911 system will both be tested at approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19.

K-State Alerts, formerly known as the Emergency Text Messaging System, is used to inform members of the K-State community when there are dangerous conditions on campus, such as an active shooter or university closure due to severe weather.

Steve Broccolo, emergency coordinator for K-State's Division of Public Safety, said these systems are tested twice a year, once during both the fall and spring semesters, ...

(Newser) – Foiled in their attempts to track down a hit-and-run driver by conventional means, cops in a Boston suburb are enlisting the help of thousands of city residents—by phone. A BMW struck a 9-year-old girl Saturday, leaving her with a fractured skull and investigators with little info. They sent a recorded message to more than 24,000 households and now have dozens of leads, WBZ-TV reports.

"The number of manpower hours it would take us to contact 26,000 homes, it's just unbelievable," a Somerville., Mass., police captain told the Boston Globe.

A report that the mysterious man and 7-year-old Reigh "Snooks" Boss were seen twice on Turks and Caicos was not credible, Boston police said today.
