Gun tied to Hudson deaths

Tests have confirmed a .45-caliber pistol hidden in bushes on the West Side had been used in the slayings of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson's brother, mother and nephew, officials said.

Police Supt. Jody Weis told reporters he was "extraordinarily pleased" by the break in the case.

Detectives are continuing to investigate if the gun can be linked to William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson's sister Julia Hudson, sources said. Balfour is considered a suspect but has not been charged in the slayings.

(Newser) – The timing isn't the best, but Jennifer Hudson has given her blessing to the inclusion of her photo in a new Gap ad, E! Online reports. The holiday ad campaign, conceived and photographed before the murders of her mother, brother, and 7-year-old nephew, features the Academy Award-winner looking cheery in a red sweater.

"She said she wanted to be a part of it and that we should move forward," a Gap spokesperson said.
