LONDON -- A consortium led by Royal Bank of Scotland PLC offered
at least $22 billion to buy LaSalle Bank Corp., the U.S. subsidiary
of Dutch giant ABN Amro NV, media reports said Saturday.
The bid was the latest move in the fight for the Netherlands'
largest bank. RBS faces fellow British giant Barclays Bank PLC,
which wants ABN Amro's European operations only, and Bank of America
Corp., which has offered $21 billion for LaSalle, Chicago's No. 2
bank.
