(Newser) – Mayor Mike has been quiet on the presidential front lately, but don't think the billionaire former Wall Streeter is quite resigned to the sidelines yet. Bloomberg will wait until the Democratic and Republican nominees are settled, after Texas’ primary in March, his top adviser tells Newsweek in a cover story on the man, his decision, and what the impact of a $1-billion independent campaign might be.

He'll look at the negative ratings of the two nominees, Kevin Sheeky says, and if they both top 40%, he'll consider jumping in. It remains unclear who he’d hurt most in the general election, but he’d pitch himself as refreshingly direct and a centrist consensus-builder. One thing that's sure is that if he ran it would be an all-out blitz. A showman attracted to risk and actually energized by negative press, Bloomberg doesn't do things half way.
