Dog bite victims receive rabies treatment after animal tests positive.(News)

The mixed-breed dog that bit five people on the outskirts of Empangeni last week had tested positive for rabies, the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said yesterday as concern mounted over the outbreak of the deadly disease in the uMhlathuze area.

Spokeswoman Cheryl Whittaker said the dog's rabies status was confirmed after tests at the Allerton veterinary laboratory in Pietermaritzburg.
