For U.S. veterans with disabilities, scoring lower on a test of mental health functioning is associated with an increased risk of major amputations, according to a study in the November/December issue of General Hospital Psychiatry.
Based on an analysis of nearly 115,000 patients with diabetes who received care at Veterans Health Administration clinics from 1998 to 2000, the study found veterans with lower scores for mental health functioning were more likely to have amputations, even with other risk factors, ...
