AURORA - When Curley "Boo" Johnson was 8 years old, he went to prison.
His father, also named Curley Johnson, worked as a parole officer in Peoria after leaving his pro basketball career. And when the elder Johnson would make his prison visits, he would bring his young son with him.
"I would go to this juvenile prison and play basketball and checkers and all these other games with these convicts," Johnson said. "The difference was, I went back to my house, and they were locked up. I knew where I didn't want to be."
