The incidence of diabetes with foot complications has risen significantly during the past decade? (1-6) Severe diabetic foot infections include, but are not limited to, necrotizing fasciitis, gas gangrene, ascending cellulitis, compartment syndrome, and infection with systemic toxicity or metabolic instability. A severe diabetic foot infection has approximately a 25% risk of ultimately requiring a major lower extremity amputation.
