There's good news for South African whale-lovers - the endangered status of the Southern Right whales that visit these shores during their annual breeding migration from the deep Southern Ocean has been downgraded.
The Southern Right Whale is now classified as of "least concern" on the 2008 Red List, or endangered list, of the IUCN (World Conservation Union), meaning it is now considered to be at a low risk of extinction.
