PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Luke List dropped only one shot in his 4-under 66 on a tough scoring day at the Honda Classic with a shrinking number of players under par.

Tiger Woods faced a blustery afternoon Friday at PGA National, and one look at the scores suggested it won't be easy. Only three players from the morning side of the draw broke par, which made List's round look even more impressive.

He was at 3-under 137, and only five other players were under par from those who played Friday morning.

Defending champion Rickie Fowler had six bogeys in a seven-hole stretch and shot 77. He was virtually certain to miss the cut.

Rory McIlroy had a reasonable day except for one hole, the par-3 17th. He hit one in the water, one in the bunker and took triple bogey. McIlroy's best shot was for par. His ball on No. 9, his final hole, was in a bunker level with his waste. He hit 8-iron around the palm trees to short of the green, and got up-and-down by making a 6-foot par putt for 72.

He was at 4-over 144, and happy to be sticking around. He had missed the cut the last two times at the Honda Classic. This was his seventh straight round over par at PGA National.

"Another tough day," he said. "I think today probably played tougher than it did yesterday. Seemed like every hole that we had a right-to-left win, the pin was on the right and vice versa. So it was hard to get it close. ... Anything around 70 and you're going to be doing well today."

Webb Simpson, who shared the 18-hole lead with Alex Noren, made a double bogey with a wedge in his hand on the par-5 18th hole, and he finished his round with a birdie at No. 9 for a 72. He was one shot behind, along with past Honda Classic champions Russell Henley (70) and Rory Sabbatini (69).

Fowler shot 40 on the back nine and never got back into the game.

"A little bit off and the wind is going to make it look like you're a terrible weekend golfer," Fowler said.

Woods was closer to the lead than the cut line when he teed off in the afternoon. This is his third PGA Tour event since returning from a year off to recover from fusion surgery on his lower back. He missed the cut last week at Riviera. He has never missed the cut in consecutive PGA Tour events when completing 36 holes.
