Markets Right Now: Stocks close mostly higher on Wall Street

NEW YORK (AP) — The latest on developments in financial markets (All times local):

Stocks are closing mostly higher on Wall Street as a post-election rally loses steam.

Energy companies fell Friday as the price of crude oil turns lower. Murphy Oil slumped 5 percent.

Retailers and technology companies moved higher. Chipmaker Nvidia soared after reporting strong results.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 39 points, or 0.2 percent, to 18,847.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped 3 points, or 0.1 percent, to 2,164. The Nasdaq composite added 28 points, or 0.5 percent, to 5,237.

Bond trading was closed in observance of Veterans' Day.

Stocks are moving lower in midday trading on Wall Street as a post-election rally fades.

Energy companies fell more than the rest of the market Friday as the price of crude oil turns lower. Murphy Oil lost 6 percent.

Utilities and real estate companies, which had taken heavy losses in the last few days, moved higher.

Michael Kors slumped 9 percent after issuing a disappointing forecast.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 59 points, or 0.3 percent, to 18,749.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index gave up 13 points, or 0.6 percent, to 2,153. The Nasdaq composite lost 13 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,196.

Energy companies fell more than the rest of the market in early trading Friday as the price of crude oil turns lower.

Southwestern Energy and Hess each fell 2 percent.

Utilities and real estate companies, which had taken heavy losses in the last few days, moved higher.

The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 17 points, or 0.1 percent, to 18,788.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index edged down 7 points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,160. The Nasdaq composite lost 24 points, or 0.5 percent, to 5,184.
