Japan stock index down more than 5 percent

TOKYO (AP) — Japan's benchmark stock index dived more than 5 percent Friday following a sell-off in European and U.S. markets.

The Nikkei 225 was down 5.3 percent at 14,876.64. Other Asian stock markets were also lower but less dramatically.
