The Cubs' outfield was playing in with a runner on third and one out when Schumaker, usually the Cardinals' leadoff hitter, hit his second homer of the season and fifth of his career off Chad Fox

Fox (0-1) had his contract purchased from Triple-A Iowa earlier Friday and made his first appearance since April 2005. Ron Villone (1-0) picked up his first victory since July 2, 2006, for the Yankees over the Mets.

Alfonso Soriano tied it in the ninth with a two-run homer off Isringhausen.
