WASHINGTON (AP) — No. 6 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia advanced to the second round of the Citi Open with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Slovenia's Polona Hercog on Monday.

American Vania King also moved on, cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 win against Canada's Francoise Abanda.

Tomas Berdych, No. 5 on the ATP tour, is the top seed on the men's side. The Czech Republic native and other seeds, including American John Isner, received a first-round bye. Wimbledon semifinalist Milos Raonic of Canada, ranked No. 7 in the world, is the second seed.

16-year-old American Francis Tiafoe, the world's sixth-ranked junior player and a D.C.-area native, makes his ATP tour debut Monday night against Russia's Evgeny Donskoy.

Isner, a finalist in Washington last year, won the Atlanta title on Sunday.
