GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Former Packers general manager Ron Wolf still keeps a close eye on Green Bay in retirement.

He has no qualms with bugging his proteges, either, about a roster decision.

It might be difficult for current general manager Ted Thompson or Wolf's son, player personnel director Eliot Wolf, to argue with someone who is going to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.

"Sometimes you'll go out there and you'll go, 'How are you doing?' Thompson said Tuesday. "And he goes, 'How come you got this guy out here?' Stuff like that, and it's usually just to see what kind of reaction he gets."

The elder Wolf has earned the right to ask. After all, he was the general manager who turned Green Bay back into one of the NFL's top teams during a decade-long tenure that began in November 1991.

Ron Wolf traded for Favre in 1992, the springboard move to the Packers' resurgence.

More than two decades later, he got the call to come to Canton.

"I was at home at the time. I cried. I was just so proud of him," Eliot Wolf said. "It was pretty flooring for me just to know what it meant to him."

The ceremony on Saturday will culminate an unofficial three-week celebration of the Packers' recent past. The period started on July 18, when Green Bay retired Brett Favre's No. 4 jersey and inducted him into the Packers Hall of Fame.

Thompson was there almost from the start with Wolf after being hired in 1992 following an audition as a talent evaluator.

Thompson has been general manager since 2005. Eliot Wolf, who was promoted to personnel director in January, is entering his 12th season overall with the club.

He's not immune to needling, either, from his father.

"All of us are fair game when it comes to that second-guessing and that sort of thing," Thompson said. "He genuinely enjoys the hunt, still."

The younger Wolf will introduce his father on Saturday in remarks that have already been videotaped. He'll miss the Packers' annual Family Night practice, but the Hall of Fame ceremony for his father is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"We used to joke back when I was a little kid about, 'Hey, Dad, when you get in the Hall of Fame, I'm going to present you,'" Eliot Wolf said Tuesday.

Imagine what family time was like in the Wolf home. Eliot Wolf recounted times growing up when his father would bring home the waiver wire to talk about players.

No wonder Eliot has stayed in the family business.

"And I'd say, 'What about this guy? What about that guy?' Kind of the same things he does to me now. It's pretty cool," the younger Wolf said.
