FREETOWN, Sierra Leone (AP) — A news conference to announce the results of a three-day nationwide shutdown designed to help stop the spread of Ebola has been postponed to give officials who fanned out across the country time to reach the capital.

Abdulai Bayraytay, a government spokesman, had said earlier Monday that officials were collecting evidence on the unprecedented lockdown to see if it had contributed to the fight against Ebola. Officials were expected to say how many new cases of Ebola teams found when they went from house to house, looking for new patients and handing out information about the deadly disease.

The press conference is now expected Tuesday.

Officials earlier said more than 1 million households were checked.
