WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says that some of the federal government's information technology systems are archaic and that "we need to upgrade them" to get serious about improving security.

Obama is seeking to increase spending on cybersecurity by more than 35 percent from last year.

After meeting with his national security team and cybersecurity advisers, Obama tells reporters that one of the biggest gaps between the government and private sector is information technology "and it makes everyone's security vulnerable."

Republicans are making clear that many of the president's budget recommendations won't pass Congress, but tackling the nation's cyber vulnerabilities is a bipartisan priority.
