TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida officials say three current and former prison employees were members of the Ku Klux Klan who planned to kill a former inmate who is black.

Attorney General Pam Bondi's office says they planned the murder after the inmate's release from prison as retaliation for a fight between him and one of the workers.

Bondi's office says in a statement that Thomas Jordan Driver, David Elliot Morgan and Charles Thomas Newcomb each were arrested Thursday on one state count of conspiracy to commit murder.

Driver and Morgan are current employees of the Department of Corrections, and Newcomb is a former corrections employee. The state's statement says Driver had the fight with the inmate.

The case will be prosecuted in Columbia County in north Florida.
