WASHINGTON (AP) — The Latest on the funeral Mass for the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (all times local):

12:00 p.m.

The Rev. Paul Scalia is remembering his father, Antonin Scalia, as a man who loved God, country and family.

Scalia's son has delivered the homily at a funeral mass for the late Supreme Court justice, who died last week.

In highly personal remarks, the younger Scalia has recalled his father's devotion to God and country. But he has said that most important to him and his eight siblings was the love his father showed them.

Mixing humor into the homily, the younger Scalia has said his father sometimes forgot their names or mixed them up but he excused him because there were nine of them.

He recalled how his father reacted once after accidentally standing in his son's confessional line. The justice said: "'Like heck if I'm confessing to you.'" Paul Scalia joked that "the Roman collar was not a shield against his criticism."

Washington Archbishop Donald Cardinal Wuerl has drawn chuckles when he told the massive crowd at Justice Antonin Scalia's funeral Mass that he would keep opening remarks brief "in keeping with your desire to have a simple parish family Mass."

Wuerl has expressed to Scalia's family and mourners "our heartfelt sympathy at the loss of your husband, your father, grandfather and friend."

Leonard Leo, executive director of the Federalist Society, read a passage from the Old Testament's Book of Wisdom. The society is a conservative legal group.

Justice Clarence Thomas read a passage from the New Testament's Book of Romans.

A hearse carrying Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's casket has arrived at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, where a funeral Mass is set to begin.

Dignitaries including Vice President Joe Biden, former Vice President Dick Cheney and all eight sitting justices of the Supreme Court are attending.

Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz was also seen among the mourners. The Texas senator interrupted his campaign ahead of Saturday's South Carolina primary to attend the funeral Mass. Cruz served as a law clerk to former Chief Justice William Rehnquist in the 1996 term.

The funeral Mass Saturday for Justice Antonin Scalia is the first such service to be held for a Supreme Court justice at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington. But other prominent funerals have been held there.

The 2010 funeral of Gen. Alexander M. Haig Jr., who served as secretary of state to President Ronald Reagan, was held there. It also hosted the 2008 funeral for Tony Snow, the TV news anchor who served as a press secretary to President George W. Bush.

Three popes have visited the basilica: Pope John Paul II in 1979, Pope Benedict XVI in 2008 and Pope Francis last year.

Some Americans may remember the church from television coverage of the 1966 wedding of President Lyndon Johnson's daughter Luci. The 19-year-old's nuptials to Patrick Nugent were held at the church. The couple later divorced, and their marriage was annulled.

Only one of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's nine children is expected to speak publicly at his funeral Mass on Saturday, but others have spoken and written about their father this week.

Scalia's son Christopher wrote in a remembrance in The Washington Post on Saturday that his father loved opera, classical music and the Yankees. He recalled what would happen to anyone who said "um" at dinner. His dad would "lead a chorus of 'ummmmmmms' to spotlight this oratorical shortcoming."

Scalia's oldest son, Eugene, said on conservative commentator Laura Ingraham's radio show earlier this week that his father "loved the court" and the court's work. He also addressed conspiracy theories that his father did not die of natural causes, calling them a "hurtful distraction."

The Rev. Paul Scalia is set to lead the funeral Mass and deliver the homily.

The Supreme Court says more than 6,000 visitors came to the court on Friday to view Antonin Scalia's casket in the Great Hall.

Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg says everyone who was in line as of 9 p.m. was allowed into the building to pay their respects to the late justice.

Scalia's former law clerks took turns standing vigil by the casket's side all day Friday and throughout the night. It's a tradition that was observed most recently after the 2005 death of then-Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

Scalia's casket is set to be moved Saturday morning to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception for a funeral Mass.

Paul Scalia — a Catholic priest serving the diocese of Arlington, Virginia — also plans to deliver the homily. No eulogy is expected.

Set to give opening remarks is Washington Archbishop Donald Cardinal Wuerl.

Thousands of people are expected to attend Saturday's funeral Mass in Washington for the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

The Mass is being held at the nation's largest Roman Catholic church — the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It can hold at least 3,500 people.

Among those expected to attend is Vice President Joe Biden.

President Barack Obama paid tribute to Scalia at the Supreme Court on Friday. Scalia's flag-draped casket rested on a funeral bier first used after President Abraham Lincoln's assassination.

One of Scalia's nine children, the Rev. Paul Scalia, is set to lead the Mass.

Burial plans have not been announced for Antonin Scalia, who died last weekend at a remote Texas ranch.
