NEW YORK (AP) — Cosmopolitan magazine is apparently too racy to appear without a wrap on Rite Aid drugstore shelves.

The Hearst women's magazine is famous for cover lines such as "The Sex Move He Will Worship You For" and "Epic Summer Sex: 28 OMFG Moves."

That lead to a campaign by advocacy group the National Center on Sexual Exploitation and Victoria Hearst, granddaughter of Hearst Corp. founder William Randolph Hearst, urging retailers to keep Cosmo under wraps and out of view of minors. Their Cosmo Harms Minors campaign says the magazine is pornographic.

The campaign has worked with at least one retailer. Rite Aid Corp. has said that it will place future issues of Cosmo behind pocket shields that will obscure some of the headlines.

In response, Cosmo said the magazine is "the most successful global media brand for young women, publishing 60 editions in 79 countries and 32 languages."

"Its award-winning content is produced for adults by leading female journalists. We are proud of all that the brand has achieved for women around the world in the areas of health, relationships, career, politics, equality and social issues," Cosmo said in a statement.

The NCSE said Delhaize Group, which owns Food Lion, also agreed to put the magazine behind protective shields. But Delhaize Group did not return a request to confirm that.
