BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A Louisiana congressman plagued by a cheating scandal registered for re-election and then immediately took the "ice bucket challenge" while standing outside the secretary of state's office.

Rep. Vance McAllister was wearing a New Orleans Saints football jersey and standing next to his pickup Friday when aides doused him with ice water.

The Republican incumbent faces a crowded field of challengers hoping McAllister was weakened by the cheating scandal and security footage leaked in April showing the married congressman kissing a former staffer.

The ice bucket challenge has gained momentum from social media and is meant to support the ALS Association. McAllister challenged his fellow members of the Louisiana congressional delegation to take a similar soaking.
