Pope to view Holy Shroud

Pope Benedict XVI will travel to Turin in May to view the Holy Shroud, revered by many Christians as Jesus Christ's burial cloth.
Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano said Tuesday that the pope will also celebrate Mass and meet with local youths during his May 2 visit. The paper cited a message by the archdiocese of Turin, northern Italy.
The Holy Shroud will go on rare public display for a few weeks next year.
The cloth was last shown to the public in 2000, when more than 1 million visitors viewed it in the Turin cathedral during a special display for the Holy Year.
The shroud bears an imprint believed by some to be the image of Christ. The strip of linen is about 14 feet (four meters) long and more than three feet (1 meter) wide.
