Mexico to nominate bank director to top IMF post

The Mexican government says it will nominate the head of the country's central bank to lead the International Monetary Fund following the resignation of Dominique Strauss-Kahn as director-general.

Mexican Finance Minister Ernesto Cordero Arroyo will propose Agustin Carstens as a candidate for the top job at the IMF.

Strauss-Kahn faces is under house arrest in New York on sexual assault charges.

The IMF is accepting nominations from member countries for candidates to succeed Strauss-Kahn. Carstens has served the agency before as the IMF's executive director for Mexico, Spain, Venezuela and Central America.

Among the other candidates floated for the IMF directorship is French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde.
