Witnesses and the Nigerian Red Cross say an explosion has struck near government buildings in Nigeria's Taraba state, causing injuries.

The blast happened Monday morning at a road junction near the offices of the Taraba state governor. A report from the Nigerian Red Cross said some people were hurt in the blast and taken to nearby hospitals.

Police declined to immediately comment as officers surrounded the road junction.

Nigeria's largely quiet Taraba state borders Cameroon. Jalingo is the state capital.

Bomb and gun attacks Sunday on Christians attending church services in Nigeria's north killed at least 21 people.
