Brown nets go-ahead goal, Kings top Sharks 4-1

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Dustin Brown snapped a tie 44 seconds into the second period, and the Los Angeles Kings beat the San Jose Sharks 4-1 in an NHL preseason game on Tuesday night.

Drew Doughty, in his first appearance of the preseason, scored the tying goal midway through the first period. Justin Williams and Dwight King also scored for the Kings (4-0-1).

Joe Thornton scored for the Sharks, who lost in regulation at home for the first time in five preseason games.

Los Angeles' Jonathan Quick stopped 16 of 17 shots in two periods in his first preseason game appearance. Martin Jones saved all seven shots he faced in the third period.

Antti Niemi went the distance and made 26 saves, but took the loss.

The teams will open the regular season against each other on Oct. 8 in Los Angeles.
