Twitter celeb brouhaha of the day: Meghan McCain, in a bid to show how dorky she’s becoming in her old age, posts a photo of herself, curled up at home on a Wednesday night with a book—in a tank top
that shows off her very ample bosom (and super push-up). She gets called a slut, claims to be hurt, apologizes to whoever she’s offended, and, in the meantime, gets more than a hundred thousand views.
The tweet is the new drunk dial—something easy to do without thinking, and all but impossible to undo—and celebs
have gotten endless flak as of late for baring their souls, their beefs, and their bodies on the site. It’s caused Courtney Love and Miley Cyrus to delete their accounts, and has McCain threatening to do the same.

But the Twitter indiscretion has also become the new career move. Obviously McCain knew that her rack was loud and proud in that photo; she also knew it was fabulous follower bait. Let’s review:
Ashton tweeted Demi’s butt; Kim Kardashian tweets a seemingly endless parade of herself in swimsuits (with plenty of plugs for QuickTrim attached), McCain goes for cleavage—and the avalanche of attention ensues. In McCain’s case, her assets are being discussed on
CNN and the
Wall Street Journal; she’s
added 700-plus followers in the time it’s taken me to write this.
Life is turning into a numbers game of friends and followers, and scanty is the new savvy. It’s a lot easier to grab eyeballs by showing a little skin than by writing something witty, and McCain certainly gets this. After tweeting her shock, her mea culpa, her frustration, she left us with—a plug for her latest Daily Beast column.
A picture speaks a thousand words—and that’s a whole lot of tweets.
