Wildfires Impact LT, Chargers

Posted Oct 22, 07 9:43 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The wildfires blazing through San Diego County forced 40 Chargers to evacuate their homes, including star running back LaDainian Tomlinson. The team cancelled practice today due to poor air quality, and will move their operations to Arizona for the rest of the week. It is not yet clear whether the fires will affect Sunday’s home game against Houston, reports the AP.

Tomlinson was not the only famous athlete among the 250,000 forced to leave their homes—some of whom are sheltering at the Chargers' stadium. Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn and Padres closer Trevor Hoffman have also been affected by the fires. “I hope my house is there when it's all over,” said Gwynn. The Chargers had to play a 2003 home game in Arizona because of a similar disaster.
