A Massachusetts school district apologized today, after a video surfaced showing students praying during a class field trip to the Islamic Society of Community Center. The video was shot in May by a parent chaperoning the trip, and then handed over to a group that has long been critical of the mosque, Americans for Peace and Tolerance.

“It was not the intent for students to be able to participate in any of the religious practices,” the Wellesley school superintendent told the Boston Globe. “That any students were allowed to do so was an error.” Students visited the mosque as part of a social studies course on religion; they also visited a synagogue and attended a gospel music performance.
