Sad news in high school football: A Texas quarterback collapsed and died after suffering an apparent seizure on the sidelines. Reggie Garrett had just thrown his second TD pass of the game when he came off the field in the second quarter. Players started noticing he was in trouble after the extra point, reports the Beaumont Enterprise.

“I saw him come off the field, and he was kind of, ‘Yay, good shot.’ He was happy,” says the coach of West Orange-Stark team. “That was all. There wasn’t any major reaction.” The stadium fell silent as medics attended to him, writes Christopher Dabe, and players dropped to one knee. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 9:30pm. No official word on the cause of death yet. (More Reggie Garrett stories.)
