'Preppie Killer' Busted in NYC Drug Sting

Posted Oct 24, 07 5:17 AM CDT in US

(Newser) – Robert Chambers, the notorious "preppie killer" who served 15 years in prison for strangling a young woman in Central Park during what he said was rough sex, has been arrested for repeatedly selling cocaine to undercover police, according to law enforcement authorities. Chambers, 41, struggled with police during the raid and broke one officer's wrist, the New York Times reports.

Chambers and his girlfriend allegedly sold cocaine from their Manhattan apartment; an undercover investigation began after neighbors complained about traffic to and from the apartment. In 1986, Chambers killed Jennifer Levin,18, a graduate of an exclusive prep school; he became a media symbol of handsome, privileged youth gone wrong. He has struggled to find work since his 2003 prison release.
