(Newser) – Garrison Keillor has appealed to fellow Minnesotans to get rid of Michele Bachmann in the midterm elections, calling her "embarrassing" to their home state. The Tea Party-backed Bachmann is "so busy grandstanding and giving interviews on Fox News that she doesn't have time to serve the people who elected her," Keillor writes in a letter of support for Bachmann's Democratic challenger, Tarryl Clark, the Huffington Post reports.

"Minnesota's 6th District has some of the highest foreclosure and unemployment rates in the state, but in an interview with the St. Cloud Times, Congresswoman Bachmann was unable to name any 'substantive' legislation she had passed," Keillor writes. "Instead of working to solve problems, Bachmann talks about us as a 'nation of slaves' and about the need for smaller government even though she knows better—the biggest part of big government is military spending, Social Security, and Medicare. Which would she do away with?"

For the first time ever, I have given this story a "hilarious" rating, and not just because Keillor claims that Bachman is the Rep for Lake Wobegon, either. A well-known humorist and political commentator, Keillor has contributed nearly $5000 to Clark's campaign so he's in the fight. Anyone could predict that Keillor would criticize Bachmanniac, and also predict that he would be reviled for his opinion.

I suppose Garrison wants Minnesota to vote for another stage friend like Al Franken? There's another funny story. Come on Minnesota, Garrison's stories are amusing but his political recommendations are not good for Minnesota nor America. He's just another entertainer feeling and stumping like the mainstream of Hollywood.

I'd like to illustrate exactly why this lady is such an embarassment to my state. Here's a list, off the top of my head, of the idiocy that has definied this lunatic's foray into politics: She got her start by demanding that the local Stillwater school board ban the Disney movie Aladdin from schools because it "promotes witchcraft. Claims God told her to run for Congress. She was next seen literally hiding in bushes outside a gay rally at the state capitol trying to see what those evil gays are up to. Photos documented this. Falsely claims she was assaulted by a two lesbians inside a bathroom. Could be heard yelling "Help! Help!" Declines to press charges. Claims "our children are the prize" for the gay community. "They are specifically targetting our children." "Children will be forced to learn that homosexuality is normal, natural, and perhaps (children) should try it." Rails against entitlements and welfare, meanwhile, she has accepted over a quarter million dollars in farm subsidies. Devotes herself to her precious "Stop Gay Marriage Amendment" which fails. Railed against federal hate crimes bill and compared gays to pedophiles on the floor of the US House. “But who would be protected? A pedophile, someone who considers themselves gay, someone who considers themselves transgender, someone who considers themselves a cross-dresser? That is who is protected.” Voted against mortgage foreclosure relief measures five times even though her district has the highest foreclosure rate in the state. Has made no effort to do anything to help people in her district who face foreclosure. Goes on Hardball with Chris Matthews and suggests the media should investigate Congress to see who is "pro-America or anti-America." Later claims she didn't actually suggest an investigation and that it was an "urban legend." Says Bob Dole represents a "non-pro freedom agenda". Neglects to notice that Bob Dole is disabled due to wounds he suffered defending freedom in WW2. Rails against Americorps which she thinks could morph into "reedducation camps." Neglects to mention that her own son is has joined an Americorps program. Refuses to fill out her US Census card because she believes the Census lead to the internment of Japanese in WW2. Quickly reverses her position when it is explained to her that her district could be consolidated with another district if it's census numbers are low. Shall I go on? Did I miss anything else from Ol' Batsh*t?
