Roberto Alomar Exposed Me to HIV, Too: Wife Maripily Rivera Alomar defended him against similar allegations last year By Evann Gastaldo, Newser Staff Posted Oct 7, 2010 10:55 AM CDT 7 comments Comments In this Jan. 6, 2010, file photo, retired baseball star Roberto Alomar sits with his wife, Maria Del Pilar Alomar, at his home in the Queens borough of New York. (AP Photo/Frank Franklin II, File) (Newser) – First his girlfriend accused Roberto Alomar of exposing her to HIV; now his wife is making the same claim. In her divorce papers, Maripily Rivera Alomar accuses the former baseball star of “intentionally, with corrupt intent” concealing his HIV diagnosis from her in order to have unprotected sex, the New York Post reports. Maripily staunchly defended Alomar when his ex-girlfriend aired similar accusations last year. Now, she claims Alomar knew he had HIV and lied about it, telling her he’s been tested for STDs and the results were negative. Following their 2009 marriage, Maripily “learned from conclusive proof” Alomar was HIV-positive, causing her to "suffer extreme emotional distress, fear, and mental anguish." Maripily has not contracted HIV, but her filing notes that "uncertainty still exists due to the delay in the onset of the virus." Last year’s lawsuit, brought by Alomar’s ex-girlfriend Ilya Dall, was settled last May.
