Just like the rest of us, Lisa Marie Presley “didn’t understand” her relationship with Michael Jackson, she tells Oprah Winfrey in a new interview. Presley opens up about her two-year romance with the King of Pop for the first time, and insists that their romance was real, PopEater reports. “I honestly can tell you, it was every sense a normal marriage,” she says. "One of the very highest points of my life was when things were going really well and he and I were united together.”

She does understand, however, how some people could think the whole thing was faked: “To some degree, he was a master at manipulating a little bit with the media,” she says. “I understand that nobody really knew who I was. They just assumed I was going along with something he would be doing.” When she learned of Jackson’s death, she felt “real honest to goodness shock,” she says.
