When it comes to Randy and Evi Quaid, truth is stranger than fiction. After skipping a US court hearing Monday on charges that they squatted in and vandalized a home, the pair was arrested in Canada and told the country’s immigration board yesterday that they are seeking asylum from “Hollywood star whackers.” They claimed friends David Carradine and Heath Ledger were “murdered” and that they fear they’re next.

"We feel our lives are in danger," Evi said. "Randy has known eight close friends murdered in odd, strange manners.” The couple was jailed Thursday but released yesterday on the promise that they will appear for another hearing this Thursday, the AP reports. Amusingly, Randy denied that the couple has substance abuse problems and said, “I would not do anything to besmirch my reputation." For more on their slew of recent legal troubles, click here.
