Federal authorities believe they’ve sniffed out a plot to attack Washington DC’s Metro system, sources tell the Washington Post. The plot, which is still under investigation, was in its early stages and never endangered the public, they say. The investigation centers around a Pakistani-born naturalized US citizen named Farooque Ahmed, who became the target of an undercover sting operation after buying unspecified suspicious materials. He has been charged with, among other things, attempting to provide material support to a designated terrorist organization, notes the AP.
