Bush Staying the Course on Veto
President Bush speaks to members of the press in the Rose Garden.    (Associated Press)

Bush is staying the course in the war with Congress, ripping into "Democrat leaders" in a press conference today, and repeating his vow to veto any bills with troop withdrawal deadlines that crossed his desk. Congress, he said, is more clearly interested in fighting political battles than real ones.

If  a bill isn't passed by mid-May, the President said  troops will have to extend their deployments and will lack equipment. A recent bi-partisan report, however, said the Pentagon can fully fund the war through mid-July without additional money from Congress, which is now in spring recess. (More Iraq stories.)
