(NEWSER) - Google finally released its long-awaited stand-alone Gmail client for iPhones, iPads, and iPods today—only to immediately pull it down after a flood of complaints over bugs. “The iOS app we launched today contained a bug with notifications. Apple also unveils new version of Mac OS

(NEWSER) - Steve Jobs took a break from his medical leave to show off some major new Apple software today, including its hotly anticipated new cloud computing service. The service, predictably dubbed “iCloud,” lets users keep all manner of data online, including books, apps, and music, syncing it all across multiple devices instantly. “We are going to demote the PC to just be a device,” Jobs said, according to the New York Times . “We are going to move… the center of your digital life into the cloud.” More»

Mobile OS can automatically load malicious code

(NEWSER) - The iPad, iPod, and iPhone have a gaping security hole that hackers could easily exploit to hijack a device, security experts warn. Apple's mobile version of the Safari browser opens PDFs automatically, so all a hacker would need to do would be to embed malicious code in such a document. China suicide cluster baffles manufacturer

(NEWSER) - A 21-year-old man who jumped out a window to his death Saturday marks the ninth suicide of a worker at Foxconn, the Taiwanese-owned manufacturer of iPhones and iPods. The deaths of young employees—combined with the fact that the company says it has prevented some 30 suicides in the past 3 weeks—show the signs of a suicide cluster, and have the company so baffled it has brought in a Buddhist monk to purge the plants of evil spirits.
