President Bush has such a personal passion for Darfur that he’s been nicknamed the “Sudan desk officer”, but his zeal hasn't translated to results, reports the Washington Post. The Iraq war factors in, contributing a strained US military, Bush's reluctance to invade another Muslim nation, and UN unwillingness to cooperate. But while Bush has shocked aides with declarations that "we're going to lead" by blocking Sudan's oil supply or sending NATO, advisers have kept the lid on military action and Darfur languishes.
