Google Building City for Staff

(Newser) – Some Google employees will soon be able to live their lives under the shadow of the company—in Googletown, a residential complex to be built on an old space base in Silicon Valley. Google's not actually calling the mini-city that—it's Gawker's phrase—but it will be filled with all the luxuries that have made Google's offices legendary—athletic facilities, parks, child care, posh housing, gourmet grocers, and restaurants—all surrounding the headquarters in Mountain View.

"I'm not saying it's the new company town," a real estate company VP tells the San Jose Mercury News, which has the details. "But it's not far from it."

Welcome to Big Brother Town. Next Google will be matching mates for selective breeding of the smartest employees.

Is Google gonig to become the next Foxconn ,with a hundred thousand employees working in one giant Googleplex, who will be lucky to ever afford to see the outside world the rest of their life? I can see this happening.

Yes you can have your "athletic facilities, parks, child care, posh housing, gourmet grocers, and restaurants" but it still doesn't change the fact that its like something from Nineteen Eighty Four.
