(Newser) – A 300-person strong protest against raising University of California fees got out of hand yesterday, and 13 people—mostly students—were arrested. The demonstration took place outside a UC regents meeting about the proposed increase in San Francisco. The UC San Francisco police chief called the crowd "angry and unruly and aggressive" and said some protesters threw barricades and other objects at university and city police, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Four cops suffered minor injuries and about 15 protesters were sprayed with pepper spray. One police officer, who was allegedly hit on the head with his own baton, pointed his gun at the protesters but didn't fire. The regents were discussing a controversial 8% fee increase, which would follow a 32% tuition increase last year, and students said that most of the demonstrators wanted to be allowed into the meeting to hear the discussion. Approval of the increase is expected today. Click here to read about last year's protests.

I see California's liberal policies are in danger. Can't they just print more money and while they're at it give a pay increase to those officers, extend the benefits to the kids and make sure all the educators are making over $100,000. We have the money, we'll never run out.

at least people are still fighting for their rights somewhere in America. I thought it was only France who still stood up for themselves.

Uh-Oh California, looks like all of those liberal policies are gonna start catching up with you and all the liberal kids and their liberal parents who have been hoping for the Utopia are gonna get a little upset when reality sets in and they realize that you can't have your cake and eat it too. Doesn't Cali give in state tuition breaks to illegal aliens. Sorry citizens time to pay the tab. And by the way, if I was a cop and them spoiled little students jumped me and started beating me with my baton, I would of pulled that gun and started popping caps in that ass, and would have been justified in doing so.
