Grizzlies Fall Just Short of Spurs, 104-101

Posted Nov 1, 07 5:14 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The San Antonio Spurs handed the Memphis Grizzlies an opening night loss yesterday as they improved to 2-0 on the sharpshooting of sixth man Manu Ginobili, reports the San Antonio Express-News. The Grizzlies stayed neck-and-neck with the defending champs until the end, when Ginobili hit seven of his last eight free throws to lock up the victory.

Ginoblili contributed throughout the game, totaling 30 points to outshine Spurs stars Tony Parker and Tim Duncan, who put up 17 each. Pau Gasol led the scoring for the Grizzlies with 22 in a high-point game that somehow ended with just one double-double: Mike Miller's 10 rebounds and 11 points for Memphis.
