Ponzi schemer's son to be cremated without service

(Newser) – Bernard Madoff's elder son will be cremated with no viewing and no funeral service, sources tell the New York Post. The body of Mark Madoff—who hanged himself on Saturday, the second anniversary of his father's arrest—was claimed by a funeral director on behalf of his family yesterday. His father, who is serving a 150-year sentence for running the biggest Ponzi scheme in history, had already said he wouldn't seek permission to attend his son's funeral. Click for more.

It sounds strange, but maybe the deceased didn't want a funeral. My father has made his wishes quite clear on the subject; if they couldn't be bothered to show up when I was alive, I don't intend to be filled with chemicals and putty just to wait on them. He wants to be cremated within hours of his death and has made this clear to his family and the funeral director. This is how my father is and maybe M Madoff was of the same mindset

Why are the rich so weird around death? This poor man gets no ceremony of any kind. Even the most feuding, soap operaish trailer trash family has funerals, they may be high drama but they have them. The Madoffs ought to be ashamed of themselves.
