The general manager of a posh hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE will ask Guinness World Records to confirm that the Christmas tree erected in its lobby is the world's most expensive, reports BBC News. While the cost of the 43 foot tree alone was just $10,000, jewel encrusted decorations, including bracelets, necklaces, and watches containing diamonds, pearls, emeralds, sapphires and other precious stones bring the total price tag to over $11 million, according Emirates Palace hotel manager Hans Olbertz. The hotel's lobby tree is an annual ritual, but Olberts admits that this year his marketing team decided to do "something special." Asked if he thought the tree would be offensive to the population of the UAE, most of whom are Muslim, Olberts was optimistic. "It's a very liberal country," he responded.
The tree is the latest in a series of stunts by the management of the publicity seeking hotel, which has promoted a $1million Valentine's Day package, and a gold vending machine in the past.
