Time Names iPhone Year's Best Invention

Posted Nov 2, 07 10:00 AM CDT in Business Arts & Living Technology

(Newser)Time magazine is naming the iPhone its invention of the year. Why?

  1. It demonstrates that good design is as important as good technology.
  2. Its touchscreen creates a whole new kind of user interface.
  3. Other companies will seek the freedoms that AT&T granted Apple in designing the iPhone, which will result in better phones all around.

  1. Unlike other phones that run on simplistic firmware, the iPhone runs a complete desktop OS. More widgets will soon be added because Apple recently opened the phone to third-party application development.
  2. But as cool as the iPhone is, it will look primitive compared to later generations of the gadget that will be produced in the next few years.
